Dear partners and friends of Project 90 by 2030,

The arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa, and the inevitable disruption to our lives and work, has encouraged us to rethink our work priorities, our ways of working and the role we play in slowing the spread of the virus.

As we are meeting this immense challenge, we would like to assure all our partners that we are investigating ways of continuing our programmes with youth and in communities. We are committed to finding new ways of supporting our beneficiaries and to address their most pressing needs during this time of uncertainty. While we continue to work towards our identified programmatic areas within a Just Energy Transition, our team have opted to focus on Covid-19 education, social solidarity and building resilience during this period.

Our activities are aiming to:

  • support our beneficiaries in mobilising inclusive actions, building solidarity while educating communities on the requirements to prevent further viral spread.
  • mobilise community activists to share the voices of marginalised citizens and learnings from people continually living in a crisis.
  • support our youth mentors and encourage ongoing learning and development opportunities.
  • continue the EGSA network and ensure that organisations are collaborating on decisions being made on energy issues during this time.
  • expand our knowledge of the digital platforms available and ways of inspiring and mobilising communities during this time

With regards to our operations, we have implemented the following measures:

  • Our two maintenance staff have been given paid leave for this period.
  • All team members are working remotely.
  • Our team meetings have shifted to online platforms. We meet twice per week and are otherwise communicating through emails and Whatsapp.

All our staff remain available via email.
