On 24th September 2022, under the banner of March For System Change, youth, civil society and concerned citizens from across Cape Town and Surrounding towns and settlements came together to march from Hanover Street to Cape Town Parliament on Heritage Day!

The action was led by the youth-led African Climate Alliance in partnership with / supported by Project 90 by 2030, 350Africa.org, Green Connection, Feed the Future, Environmental Monitoring Group, Extinction Rebellion Cape Town, Fight Inequality Alliance, Fridays for Future South Africa, SAFCEI, Youth Arise, Greenpeace Cape Town Volunteer Group, Sundial Movement, Social Change Assistance Trust, Rural Action for Climate Resilience and other allied organizations.
The #MarchForSystemChange aimed to raise awareness about the interlinkages of social, economic, environmental and climate change justice while calling South African leaders to account. It aimed to call for deep systemic change from within our government and our systems in South Africa. The march and programme that followed it was over the last few years and continues to be a crucial way of building hope, solidarity, and engaging our local, provincial, and national government to take action for our present and our future!

For the past four years Project 90 by 2030 in partnership with African Climate Alliance, 350 Africa.org, and other organisations have not only played a key role in planning and running of the mobilisations, but have also aimed to capacitate young people that we work with and elevate their messages and authentic voices. With the March For System Change seeing 1 800 – 2 000 people take to the streets, we see the value in continuing to #inspire and #mobilise, we see that the fight for system change can be won if we do it together!
