Mobilising Support For Project 90 – We need to cover costs for 3 months to continue inspiring and mobilising society towards a sustainably developed and equitable low-carbon future.

About The Project:

Entering 2020, Project 90 by 2030 was celebrating a record number of 21 YouLead Initiative participants receiving their Bronze President’s Award and one young woman going onto Davos to represent South African voices at the World Economic Forum.

12 community activists from six Cape Flats areas participated in Energy Smart Citizens dialogues and continued to represent their communities at public participation events, fighting to keep electricity costs affordable for all.

With Covid -19 lockdown being enforced in March 2020, two large partner organisations, reallocated their funding. With uncertainty around the pandemic, Project 90 was challenged to find new partners and grants while ensuring staff and participants were all supported during this difficult time. Systems were shifted to the cloud, the office downsized and program work continued, especially since decisions around energy and climate change continued with limited public participation. Project 90 provided training and resources for establishing food gardens, provided resources for mentors to access online training but mostly supplied airtime or data for staff and partners to remain in contact with family.

The emergency funds that had so diligently been saved for the past six years were utilized in 2020. Now we need some assistance until May to meet our costs when our new Projects start. It is a difficult thing to ask – but we are Inviting all our past stakeholders, volunteers and partners to consider donating any amount to help us keep our work going.
