Who Are We
Our members bring expertise across just energy transitions, climate adaptation and resilience, food systems, and social, environmental and financial justice. Through strong connections with communities and constituencies, we bring grounded, local knowledge into global and regional policy processes.
While rooted in African civil society, the network also brings together academics, think tanks, philanthropic organisations and international civil society partners who support the African agenda. We work collectively to strengthen African civil society participation and ensure that community perspectives and priorities are reflected in discussions on climate, energy and sustainable finance.
How We Work
The ACG brings members together through regular network and thematic working group meetings to share knowledge, develop collective positions and coordinate joint action.
We work collaboratively and seek consensus, while respecting the independence and autonomy of each member organisation. Members choose which collective statements, campaigns and activities they wish to support.
Our activities include policy engagement, joint statements, media and communications, public discussions, capacity building and other forms of collective action. Our approach is rooted in meaningful participation, shared learning and collaboration around common priorities.
Our Working Groups
Members participate across the network or through thematic working groups, depending on their interests, expertise and capacity. The network currently has five thematic working groups:
- Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction
- Food Systems and Climate
- Health, Air Quality and Climate
- Just Energy Transitions and Critical Minerals
- Sustainable Finance and Climate Finance
Additional working groups may be established where there is sufficient interest, leadership capacity and relevance to the network’s priorities.
Each working group is coordinated by two to three co-leads who facilitate discussions, coordinate activities and lead the drafting and review of collective positions and outputs. Working group co-leads also form an advisory group to the Coordinator and Secretariat, supporting inclusive and democratic decision-making across the network.
Our Key Positions and Working Groups
The ACG has developed collective positions and priorities through its engagement with the G20 process. Building on this work, the network is taking these positions forward through the broader multilateral process and in the lead-up to COP32.
Our positions have been developed through consultation across the network and reflect the priorities and expertise of our thematic working groups. Key areas of work include climate finance, just energy transitions and critical minerals, food systems and climate, adaptation and disaster risk reduction, and health and air quality.
