Ayakha Melithafa, along with her fellow YouLead Warriors, will celebrate the culmination of their year of intensive climate change literacy and skills development course – The YouLead Initiative 2019 –  spearheaded by local NGO Project 90 by 2030. (Watch the YouLead movie)
 
Ayakha Melithafa is one of 16 young activists from across the world that are petitioning the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, to hold five of the world’s leading economic powers accountable for inaction on the climate crisis – https://childrenvsclimatecrisis.org
 
 
The YouLead Initiative has seen the warriors:
 
– Learning the basics of solar energy technology and building small solar light boxes – with partner organisation Engineers Without Borders

– Learning about the power of peaceful protest by taking to the streets in the global #ClimateStrike marches that happened in South Africa and around the globe – inspired by #GretaThunberg.
 
We are inviting members of the Press to come and witness this occasion and to recognise our fierce local #climatewarriors, who are clearly taking up their positions on a global stage.
 
The Ceremony takes place on Saturday 26 October from 10am – 1pm at the Harare Public Library, 42 Ncumo Road, Harare Square, Harare, Khayelitsha.
