On the 3rd August, Project 90 by 2030’s Policy and Advocacy team attended the 2nd round of Just Energy Transition discussions in Johannesburg, with labour unions, civil society organisations and stakeholders in attendance.
The P&A team consisting of Dr. Neil Overy (independent researcher for P90), Richard Halsey and Iago Davids presented their reports on:
- Just Energy Transition and Community Ownership
- Renewable Energy in South Africa and Small Scale RE
- Community Energy
- Next Steps for Stakeholders to Consider
Project 90 by 2030 is committed to a transition to energy systems that are better for people and the planet. We need a Just Energy Transition plan so that civil society and stakeholders can work together to lobby government to implement these policies. The priorities for a transformative JET are:
- Energy democracy
- Accessibility and affordability of supply
- Proper provision and compensation for workers in legacy energy systems
- Non-corporate, community or socially based ownership
We continue to mobilise civil society organisations and citizens to think and act differently, as we transition to a sustainably developed and equitable low carbon future.
