A just energy transition is a shift from our current energy system to one that is better in terms of sustainability, environmental impact, climate change, human health, economics, employment and social equity. The ‘just’ part focuses on looking after people in the current (fossil fuel) energy system – the workers in the coal sector – who could be negatively affected by job losses as we transition to renewable energy systems.

Project 90 by 2030’s Policy and Advocacy team have put together a downloadable brochure to explain what a Just Energy Transition is, and why it’s so vital that South Africa formulates a JET plan now.
