Philippi Hub, Monday, 11 March 2016: The Keep It Bag added the element of energy saving in an environmentally respectful way to the Humane Society’s Green Monday Campaign. The event was aimed at familiarising marginalised women with the ethical, health and environmental benefits of eating vegan meals prepared from locally grown food and was attended by over 50 local women. Project 90 by 2030 gave an overview of preparing a vegan meal using a Keep It Bag to free up time and conserve energy.
In the coming weeks, the Keep It Bag initiative will be hosting short capacity building workshops for 30 women living in peri-urban and rural communities. The aim of the workshops is to enhance the energy security of women. The workshops offer experiential learning opportunities that focus on the process of cooking in a Keep It Bag with sustainable fuel sources and environmentally friendly, efficient heat generators. The women will also learn about the insulation properties of available materials for the production of their own Keep It Bags.
