On 23 March, 2019, Community Youth Mentor, Kutlwano speaks film. The Project 90 by 2030 Youth Mentor for the YouLead Program assisted the team in equipping a group of young environmental warriors in prepping content for social media, he chats briefly to SabaZahara HoneyBush.
Here’s what he had to share regarding the process:
SZ: How did you feel about the overall social media workshop?
K: The workshop was productive because most of our participants enjoyed it and learned skills about social media and its importance.
SZ: How did the usage of cameras to document stories and opinions empower the youth?
K: Considering the fact that the majority of our warriors are not used to utilizing cameras for interviews, most of them were fine because they learned skills on interviewing others and being interviewed as well.
SZ: Can they utilize that knowledge in the future?
K: Surely they can use the skills they got from the workshop because they were also taught how to use their own phones to update posts on social media. Some of them had the first hand experience of using high definition filming equipment, interviewing others and about speaking in front of the camera.
SZ: With more practice do you think they can improve?
K: With more practice they can surely improve their skills as they demonstrated much passion and love on the training program.
SZ: Personally did you learn anything interesting?
K: Personally I learned skills of interviewing others especially with regards to timing and making time available for such purposes is concise. I also learnt that with confidence and relevant content you can have an interesting interview.
